Let’s do Future.



In the summer of 2000, the Innovationsmanufaktur – for the first twelve years known as SportKreativWerkstatt – came into being as a unique mix of inspiration and transpiration, of disposition and motivation: The then vice president of the Munich University of Technology requested that an institution be created that intermediates between the university and the “outside world” and that sits exactly on the fence between the two.

Today, this central idea is still valid: The institution which developed intermediates between well-founded science and relevant practice and not only researches but generates innovations.


2019 Alive and kicking: At the kick-off of our international sport innovation network SINN-i, the partners met virtually and in real life to discuss our three main projects: Active City Innovation (How can cities foster activity?), Go, Wanna Go! (How can we motivate couch potatoes to become more active?), and STEM on the move (making STEM more accessible with sports) +++ And there was light: Our project OpenLicht makes light design accessible for everyone by means of workshops, presentations, cooperations +++ STEM and sports: Our exercise modules combine STEM subjects and sports.


2018 Moving STEM: Our exercise modules show what STEM can do at the Girl’s Day in Berlin +++ Innovations in Health tourism: Together with IDM South Tyrolia, we hold a workshop series on developing health tourism offers in winter. Several Alpine destinations obtain new product ideas +++ World’s best artificial turf: Together with the DFB and BASF, we develop an artificial turf which combines all the advantages of natural and artificial turfs +++ Our most ambitious project to date: The innovation hub elite athletics is an innovation network that combines existing competences and resources in order to foster meaningful innovations
2017 Micromobility in action: In our two projects Mariposa (DBU) and 2MILE (BMBF), we develop concrete concepts for innovative micro vehicles +++ The future of digitalization, health, and sports: workshop at Telekom Gallery and setup of a network Future Creative Digitalization +++ Health in Mexico, Wealth in Cooperation: Our initiation project HealWeal for establishing cooperation projects with Mexican partners and for an easier market access for German companies in the preventive health market +++ SINN goes international: Our Expansion advances, among others with initiation travels to Japan, Spain, and South Africa


2016 SINN goes international: The German Ministry of Education and Research funds the worldwide expansion of our oldest and most experienced network under the name of SINN-I +++ Nature as model: Our project BISS was a very successful experiment in developing safety textiles inspired by bionic principles +++ A passion for fringe sports: Our network WISS, together with ARD and other partners, develops and tests measures to put neglected sports (such as hammer throw) into the limelight +++ A small kick for us, a big one for track cycling: Our BiSp-funded project PedalMedal improves the connection between shoe and pedal, together with our partners and the athletes themselves.
2015 Innovationsmanufaktur's bicycle marketing campaign "Cycling Capital Munich" (Fahrradhauptstadt München) is renewed for another four years +++ Innovationsmanufaktur projects win several awards this year: the PrävenThese the Michael-Jaeger-Award, BioGlizz the innovation award of TechTextil +++ Innovationsmanufaktur is putting more emphasis on pleasure as factor of success for innovations, for example with regard to mobility (project with HOLM in Frankfurt/Main) +++ Innovationsmanufaktur and the Federal Institute of Sports Science start the network “Wearables in Elite Sports” (WISS) in order to bring Wearable Technologies to top athletes


2014 The EU-project SI-Screen/Elisa comes to a worthy finish: The results are published in a book called “Assistive Technologies for the Interaction of the Elderly. The Development of a Communication Device for the Elderly with Complementing Illustrations and Examples” +++ The University of Siegen becomes a new partner in a workshop on re-imagining financial markets and in designing new master studies “Economy for Society” +++ The innovation network Micro-electro-mobility is the latest network of Innovationsmanufaktur, funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics +++ In the feasibility study BioGlizz, Innovationsmanufaktur investigates if algae can be used as an alternative for snow +++ Continental, Intel und Schaeffler become new clients
2013 The PrävenThese, a new knee orthesis to prevent injuries in ski racing developed by Innovationsmanufaktur, proved its worth during the Giant Slalom World Cup in Val d’Isere: Stefan Luitz scored a third place +++ Start of the joint project BISS: development of bio-inspired protective clothing with adidas, Uvex, BMW and Ortema as partners +++ The Ski Innovation Network, successfully managed by Innovationsmanufaktur, is being continued as Sport Innovation Network with more partners and topics after the end of the three-year funding period +++ Two new EU projects for Innovationsmanufaktur: ELF@Home (enables the elderly to supervise their own health independently) und AHEAD (integration of a voice-controlled assistant into the hearing aid)
2012 SportKreativWerkstatt becomes Innovationsmanufaktur. The reason: Its competence by far outreaches its original scope of sports. +++ Start of the “Global Ride to Rio” campaign: Innovationsmanufaktur advertises for the bicycle all over the world, also at the Earth Summit in Rio +++ Innovationsmanufaktur develops a completely new Rheumatism exercise park for the German Center for Children’s and Youth Rheumatism in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.


2011 SportKreativWerkstatt becomes partner for innovation and technology to the German Skiing Association +++ The successful bicycle marketing campaign for the City of Munich is renewed for three more years +++ UBS Bank becomes a new client +++ SportKreativWerkstatt moves to a new location just south of the Munich Olympic Park.
2010 In cooperation with from Bolzano and the environmental organization Green City, SportKreativWerkstatt is awarded the contract for the conception and implementation of the City of Munich’s bicycle marketing campaign +++ Supported by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, the “Ski-Innovation-Network – SINN” starts +++ Two research projects supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research start: Both „Gesund wohnen mit Stil – GewoS“ and „Social Interaction Screen – SI Screen“ extend over a three-year period.
2009 On the occasion of the ball of sport, foreign minister Steinmaier becomes a javelin thrower, owing to SportKreativWerkstatt +++ The 12-day-long presence in front of the Brandenburger Tor is the highlight of the DLV Motion Camp tour (Bewegungscamp) during the athletics world championships in Berlin +++ First projects centering on innovation consultancy for the Mexican government and the South-Tyrolean provincial government gain momentum +++ A project to innovate the facilitation of innovation is commissioned by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.


2008 SportKreativWerkstatt moves Germany: In many German cities, thousands are take part in the exercise camps of the German Track and Field Association +++ Companies like Daimler, Bosch, and DAK expand the customer base +++ Huge honor: SportKreativWerkstatt is elected – along with exclusive partners such as Daimler or Siemens – to take part in the BASF Group conference with an innovative concept for workshops on future +++ In cooperation with ispo, the study “Future of Skiing” is realized.
2007 SportKreativWerkstatt wins the WECONOMY contest of the Science Factory Germany (Wissensfabrik) +++ Trumpf becomes the first customer from the mechanical engineering sector +++ The ActionAlliance “Fit and Active at any age” is established in cooperation with ispo +++ The renowned Universidad de las Américas in Puebla, Mexiko appoints E. F. Moritz to “profesor ascrito” due to his contribution to establishing innovation in teaching, research, and practice.
2006 An absolute highlight: Subsequent to the Football World Championships, SportKreativWerkstatt organizes the 6th World conference of the International Sports Engineering Association in the Olympic Hall in Munich +++ At the same time, it realizes its first project with Volkswagen Individual +++ For the first time, SportKreativWerkstatt works in Australia: innovating the adjustment mechanisms of car seats +++ E.F. Moritz receives an honorary professorship from the Qufu Normal University in China.


2005 First research grants from the Bavarian Research Foundation, the German Ministry of Education and Research, and the German Institute for Sports Science +++ SportKreativWerkstatt helps to organize the first summer school of the International Sports Engineering Association in Prato, Italy +++ During the German Year in Japan, SportKreativWerkstatt organizes events concerning innovations in non-motorized traffic +++ First formal partnerships with the GIST Technology Initiative in Gwangju, Korea, and the Toy Research Institute AIJU in Alicante, Spain +++ Establishment of an independent GmbH (Ltd.).
2004 The scope of customers is complemented by global players like BASF and Head +++ First projects with the focus not on sports but on the innovation methodology are realized for BMW.
2003 First international success: E. F. Moritz Fozzy is invited to the Japan Institute of Sports Science and teaches systematic innovation at the Universidad de las Américas, Puebla, Mexiko +++ The Japanese Ministry of Education and Culture sponsors an international project +++ SportKreativWerkstatt organizes the yearly international conference of the German Sports Engineering Association at ispo.


2002 SportKreativWerkstatt wins at the Olympic Games in Salt Lake City: It is responsible for the optimization of gold medal winner Christoph Langen’s bobsled.
2001 SportKreativWerkstatt becomes partner of the International Sports Engineering Association and of ispo +++ adidas und BMW Lifestyle are first clients.
2000 Establishment of SportKreativWerkstatt. The then-administration of TU München wanted an institution to mediate between the university and the “world out there”.
